Database Analysis to Support Nutrient Criteria Development (Phase I)
The intent of this publication of the Arkansas Water Resources Center is to provide a location whereby a final report on water research to a funding agency can be archived. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) contracted with University of Arkansas researchers for a multiple year project titled “Database Analysis to Support Nutrient Criteria Development”. This publication covers the first of three phases of that project and has maintained the original format of the report as submitted to TCEQ. This report can be cited either as an AWRC publication (see below) or directly as the final report to TCEQ

Responding to Lord Laming’s recommendation for further guidance on effective practice for Local Safeguarding Children Boards: A summary outline for consultation and a call for evidence
"Lord Laming published 'The Protection of Children in England: A Progress Report' on 12 March 2009. In his report Lord Laming recommended that “The Department for Children, Schools and Families must provide further guidance to Local Safeguarding Children Boards on how to operate as effectively as possible following the publication of the Loughborough University research on Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCBs)”. The interim findings of the research from Loughborough University were published in June 2009. It is expected that the final report will be published by the end of March 2010... The publication of this summary outline [for consultation and a call for evidence] builds on the progress already made in addressing Lord Laming’s recommendations." - page 1

Review Essay: Arthur M. Schlesinger\u27s Vision of America and the Multicultural Debate by Jesse M. Vazquez
In April of 1990, Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr., published an essay in the Wall Street Journal entitled When Ethnic Studies are Un-American. [1] The publication of that article followed, by about eight months, the release of New York State\u27s Department of Education\u27s now controversial report -- A Curriculum of Inclusion. [2] Interestingly, the publication of The Disuniting of America: Reflections on a Multicultural Society also follows, by about seven months, the release of New York State\u27s second and most current Education Department report calling for the development of a new multicultural social studies curriculum -- One Nation, Many Peoples: A Declaration of Cultural Interdependence.[3

Access to healthcare for people seeking and refused asylum in Great Britain: a review of evidence
This research report is a review of evidence looking at the barriers people seeking or refused asylum face in trying to access healthcare services in the UK, and what may help them to do so more easily.
This report, and the partner report on lived experiences (https://www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/publication-download/lived-experiences-access-healthcare-people-seeking-and-refused-asylum), will be of interest to people who play an important role in delivering healthcare and related support services to people seeking or refused asylum.
We have also made recommendations for what changes are needed (https://www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/publication-download/making-sure-people-seeking-and-refused-asylum-can-access-healthcare-what-needs) to make sure that people seeking and refused asylum have full enjoyment of their right to health.

Report Writing and Publication Strategy
In an academic world, it is critical to develop a research 'track record', a key indicator of which is the publications list. This can influence job satisfaction, promotion opportunities, and success in obtaining grants and consultancies. Publications are probably the single most important means by which researchers in universities, colleges and research institutions are evaluated. Publishing research results sends a signal to potential research funders and employers that the researcher is capable of bringing a research project to a conclusion and can produce a tangible outcome. Peer review provides a critical validation of the research methods and findings. Publications are also a major element in the transfer of technology - such as new processes and new understanding of system behaviour and management techniques - to potential users. Particularly when grant funding has been obtained, publication is expected, and is the requirement for further funding. Writing papers is a critical task for researchers. Many people do excellent conceptualisation, literature reviews, statistical analysis and other research activities, but fail to document their findings in a non-perishable and widely available form. Some people are 'writerholics' who write through compulsion; others are strongly disinclined to 'put pen to paper' and will always find something else pressing to do rather than write up their research. Writing is to some extent a matter of habit. However, some tips can be given to improve writing skills. While success in research is to a large extent a matter of commitment and perseverance, a number of strategies may be employed to increase effectiveness. Different strategies work best for different people, but a number of observations may be made as to how to be more effective in this endeavor. This module examines various aspects writing up and publishing research findings. The observations made here represent to some extent the personal views and experiences of the authors, and are designed to provoke interest and discussion on research publication strategies
